I tried to balance it to keep the spirit of the original game. (hunching over an Excel spreadsheet of all 60+ food items is exhausting lol)
I'm hoping this mod will incentivize players to try out different foods to give playthroughs variety...instead of just eating 9999 baked berries lol
As far as I know, there are only five buffs in Palworld: Attack, Defense, Work Speed, Hunger Rate, and Sanity Rate.
In my mod,
Raw foods will have one buff and last 60 seconds, pretty weaksauce!
- in this category, i've only added simple low level buff like a single attack/defense/work speed/hunger decrease/sanity decrease
- expect buffs in the 5-10% range
Campfire foods will have two buffs and last 300 seconds, ok we discovered fire!
- in this category, i've added decent buffs. since it's just campfire, i've made duration half vanilla to keep things balanced.
- expect buffs in the 10%-25% range
Cooking pot foods will have two buffs and last 600 seconds, oh yeah now we're cooking!
- in this category, since foods start taking longer, i've left the default duration. it'll still be a combination of attack/defense/work speed/hunger decrease
- expect buffs in the 15%-50% range
Electric kitchen foods will have two buffs and last 300 seconds, no more caveman cooking!
- in this category, it's pretty late game and i'm sure most are going up north to the snow biomes or desert biomes so i've added high level buffs
- expect buffs in the 25%-75% range (but duration has been halved to keep game balance)

In my mod, buffs will last either 60, 300, or 600 seconds. (In the name of balance!)
Here is a Google Sheets link if you would like to know what the buffs are ahead of time, in boring spreadsheet form for you number junkies!
But ew yuck, I don't want to look at spreadsheets...it's ok! The buff info has also been added to the item descriptions in game too :)
To know what buff your character currently has, in the inventory menu, to the right under your hunger meter, will be either one or two icons.
- Attack buff will be an explosion.
- Defense buff will be a shield.
- Work Speed buff will be a hammer.
- Hunger Decrease buff will be bread.
- Sanity Decrease will be something, at the moment it escapes my mind :P
For Pals, it's different. There will not be buff icons, like the player gets. For Pals, when looking at their status screen, hover over the Attack/Defense/Work Speed stats on the right and a pop up will show Food +XX% or something like that. This indicates that the stat is being buffed from food by XX%.

In vanilla Palworld, a few foods like Chikipi Saute have a buff that is indicated in the description.
Unfortunately, there's barely any info given in game!!!
Also, only a handful of vanilla foods even have buffs....
In this mod, I've added Buffs to ALL food items in the game, from Raw to Cooked.
- Each food's description will indicate what percentage is buffed and also for how long the buff will last.
For example, the Chikipi Saute in vanilla gives +30% work speed for 600 seconds.
My mod has the Chikipi Saute giving 50% work speed and 25% slower hunger decrease for 600 seconds.
- All vanilla buffs last for 600 seconds.
- Buffs do not stack, this is a Palworld function and I am not sure how to make, if possible, buffs stack.
So, for example, if you eat food that gives +25% attack for 300 seconds and after 100 second you eat food that gives +25% work speed, the work speed buff will overwrite the attack buff. Sorry, this is just how Palworld does buffs.
- To combat that, I've made many foods have dual buffs, like +25% attack and +10% defense or vise versa, +25% defense and +10% attack.

I've tried to balance as best as I can given the way the game is and how ungrindy/grindy the came can be. I've also tried taking into consideration player progression and difficulty of procuring food ingredients. If you have any tips to improve balance, please don't hesitate to comment!
I assigned Chunk ID 1029. Since this modifies DT_StatusEffectFood and DT_ItemDescriptionText, my mod will likely not be compatible with other mods that alter the same.
For example,
TO INSTALL:
- Unpack/unzip the archive and copy the .pak file
- Paste the .pak file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Palworld\Pal\Content\Paks directory
- Launch game and enjoy!
