What this mod does!
This is a resource and will do nothing except probably break your game if you install it as is. By following the instructions provided in the download, it will enable you to make a basic VRO compatibility patch on your own with minimal technical ability! It's (almost) so easy a monkey could do it!
- The only thing this mod does is make it easy for you to adjust hull hp and add an internal shield for a ship that doesn't have one. If a real VRO patch exists (for example) I highly highly recommend just using that instead. This is just to enable you to make your own patch for ships that don't have them already.
What is "basic VRO compatibility?"
- The most basic requirements for a ship to be functional in VRO are a hull hp rebalance and the requirement for an internal shield generator. Without both, a ship set up for vanilla will be extremely weak, lacking in both hull hp and shield regen. This resource will enable you to fix both of these issues.
What this mod does not do!
- This resource does not help you add new weapons to a ship since that is a more involved process that cannot be consistently templated. It also does not help you fix the "missing weapons or engines" problem, which is a symptom of an outdated or poorly maintained mod(or a mod conflict in your load order- NOT VRO!), caused by changes to the vanilla game in version 6.0.
How to use the resource:
- Download it and very carefully follow all the included instructions. Read the READMEs, read the INSTRUCTIONS pdf. This is an extremely limited-scope resource to make an extremely limited-scope patch and as such I will not be providing any support outside of updating in case VRO significantly changes how it works. The resource works if you do it right. If it doesn't work for you, you've either done something wrong or you have a conflict.
- This resource expects that you possess a reasonable degree of English literacy and the ability to navigate a computer and file structure, and that you have a decent source code editor for .xmls (I recommend Notepad++ if you don't have one).
- It also expects that you have a basic understanding of how to install mods to X4, and that you know how
to unpack cat/dat files using the X Catalog Tool(this is easier than it may sound), since many mods come as packed files and you may have to unpack them to reference their file naming. - Finally, this resource requires you to have VRO installed in your game, since if you don't have VRO then there's no point in making a patch for it.
- Anything you make with this resource is for your own use only and you are fully responsible for anything you break.
Do not upload any patches made with this resource. This resource produces extremely limited-scope patches intended for individual use only. You may use the resource as a basis for a more thorough integration patch but if you know how to do that then you probably don't need this in the first place.
If you have issues with this resource or you break your own game with a patch, DO NOT go post on the VRO page or the modded ship's page(or anywhere else) about it as those authors are not responsible for anything you make with this resource. This resource is unaffiliated with either VRO nor any ship mod you may try and apply it to.

FAQ
Q: I followed instructions and now my ship has 2 slots for internal shields, what gives?
A: If the ship ends up with 2 IG slots, it means you already have a VRO patch for it or it is included in base VRO. In these cases simply delete the patch you made and everything will go back to normal.
Q: Everything works, but my new internal generator doesn't have an icon?
A: This is an intentional choice to streamline the scope of the mod. This doesn't actually affect anything functional, don't worry!
Q: This mod broke my game!
A: Go and read the instructions again. If you just download and install it directly it will at best do nothing and at worst break your game.
Q: How do I add weapons and engines?
A: This is a more involved process that is outside the scope of what I cover here. Refer to the VRO Wiki (click here) compatibility section for pointers on adjusting weapons.
Q: Will you add <x> to the template?
A: Probably not, and only if VRO changes in such a way to require <x> for basic functionality.
Q: Other languages?
A: I only speak English to a sufficient degree to be comfortable releasing it with the mod, but if you have a translation and feel that it's necessary, DM me.
Q: Steam workshop?
A: It'd be kinda funny, but no. The resource doesn't do anything "out of the box" and as such does not belong there.
